Five Wines to Beat the August Heat

It’s the last month of summer, so we have to enjoy every minute and sip the best crisp summer wines! Here are the five wines you need to try before summer end!

Domaine Haegi Riesling

I’m not talking about the oversized sugary bottle of Riesling you find at the grocery store. I’m talking about Riesling without residual sugar and with allll of the tropical and citrus fruit goodness. This bottle from Domaine Haegi ($29) in Alsace, France is full of bright citrus fruit and minerality and would pair perfectly with a charcuterie board or seafood!

Carruth Cellars Sauvignon Blanc

Carruth Cellars' Little Italy Wine Garden is one of my favorite places to sip in San Diego, and they now ship their wines to most states, so everyone can share in the deliciousness! I have a lot of favorites from Carruth (most are pictured here!), but my top pick this summer is their Sauvignon Blanc ($30). It’s light and bright with passion fruit, pineapple, and pear flavors, and will definitely keep you feeling refreshed! This bottle would pair well with green vegetables and any type of Asian cuisine.

Balletto Vineyards Rose of Pinot Noir

I tend to like rosé from the Russian River Valley, and Balletto Vineyards' Rosé of Pinot Noir ($20) is no exception! Its fresh strawberry, guava, watermelon, and lime flavors and pretty pink hue will keep you reaching for it all summer long! This bottle pairs nicely with a light summer salad or a hummus appetizer!

Frerarri Carano Chardonnay

Ferrari Carano’s Chardonnay ($23) feels like a steal of a deal every time I sip it! It’s from the Sonoma Coast and has a nice balance of crisp tropical and citrus fruit flavors and an ever so slight buttery flavor from oak aging. This one would be a great accompaniment to creamy dishes like risotto or alfredo. The best part is that you can find it at most grocery stores, so have your eye out!

King Family Vineyards Crose

As far as Virginia wine goes, King Family Vineyards’ Crosé ($24) is iconic. First, its name: it’s pronounced “crow-zay”, as in rosé from Crozet, Virginia (big props to their marketing team)! The vineyard is in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains so the views are stunning, and there are polo matches you can picnic at every Sunday! If you’re not sold yet, the Crosé is light and fresh with flavors of grapefruit, watermelon, and lime, and a hint of grassiness on the nose, it's all around a fun one!
